Back to The Forest

INTO THE WOODS

It seems as though heading to the forest on Adam's birthday is becoming somewhat of a tradition. Both of us having grown up in and around the countryside, we tend to gravitate to the woods all year round, but particularly autumn. This time of year is my favourite, the sharp air and the leaves changing colour. Of course, it makes for amazing photos!

Head back to last year's post if you fancy more woodland snaps!

A Year in the Life of Finn

This time last year, Adam and I were making the journey to our local RSPCA to collect our new little pal - Finn. I can't quite believe this little kid has been chilling with us for a year now, and in true cat lady form, I couldn't let this 'finniversary' - too much? - pass without sharing a few of my favourite pictures that I have snapped over the past year. All of which have probably ended up on my Instagram, of course. (I'm surprised I haven't made him his own account yet). I hope you enjoy this little guys charm as much as I do...

KEDS x ASOS

KEDS x ASOS
If you are a lover of all things ASOS, like myself, then you will already be familiar with the hashtag #AccessAllASOS - a fortunate group of fashion lovers who have the opportunity to peek behind the scenes the world off ASOS. I spent last Friday night hanging out with a bunch of these amazing women at the #KEDSxASOS event, all in aid of celebrating Keds' 100th anniversary.

Say hello to the forever glam Kris
The backbone of the Ked's ethos is empowering women of all ages, inspiring the women that surround us and embracing all that we as young women have to offer. With a panel of ASOS creatives and Ked's representatives there to answer our burning questions and share their views on fashion, branding and social media, it was a fantastic opportunity for us ladies' to chat all things creative and share our stories over a glass or two of prosecco.

Of course, it wouldn't be an ASOS event with a little bit of chat about the new trends which we will see dropping online soon (around about now, actually) and the thought process behind the looks in this months ASOS Magazine. A few of the pieces included were available on a rail to have a peruse over - which makes it all the more likely that I will be making a purchase sometime in the near future...

DID YOU ATTEND THE #KEDSxASOS EVENT?

Adidas By Stella McCartney

ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY

If you caught my last batch of monthly favourites, then you'll have seen the new addition to my ever expanding sweater collection and I'm still so in love with it. From the Adidas by Stella McCartney range, this running sweat has the best balance of pastel shades to introduce a soft hint of pink into a wardrobe, whilst still comforted by the familiar grey tones.

Shot just before the blissful bout of weather we had (just typical) I thought I'd battle through the roof top winds to show you this piece in action. Isn't it just dreamy?

WHAT I WORE

Monthly Favourites: April

WHAT'S WITH ALL THE PINK...

It has been a little while since I have checked in with a monthly favourites, so maybe think of this as a favourites-come-roundup of a few of the new pieces I've occurred - which all happen to fall under the pastel pink/natural nudes category - an unexpected turn of wardrobe events for me. I'm not usually an advert for pink, but I've been wearing these bits all month long...

NUDE TONES

Recently I've been all about the nude nails, the barley there almost undetectable finish, and I must say the Maybelline Super Stay nail polishes have come through again! The shade 'second skin' is a beautiful light camel coloured nude which has been a constant on my nails and as always the formula has proven to be super hard wearing and the finish just as glossy as ever. I also picked up the OPI Nail Lacquer in the shade 'salmon sand', which is a little more translucent in finish and the chip resistance isn't amazing, but the pink undertone to this soft shade is still bloody beautiful.

GLOSS

This month really has been one for change so it seems and during the transition to spring I have loved a good gloss. I eased myself in with the Bourjois Sweet Kiss Gloss in '02', a light and non-sticky gloss which applies sheer to the lips and is an easy option on the days where you just want a bit of plumpness to the lips.

Then there is NYX, and I have my local Boots to thank for this purchase as we finally have a stand to hail all of their products and I happened to drop by on the launch morning - great coincidence. I honed straight in on their Butter Glosses and picked up the shades Tiramisu and Madeline. You can hardly feel these glosses on the lips, which is a huge must for me, and they are really pigmented for a full, juicy finish. Tiramisu is a pinky mauve, Madeline a richer brown, and they are both super gorgeous shades for everyday wear.

ATHLEISURE

I've always been an advocate for easy wearing, comfortable clothes, so athleisure is an amazing trend for me to work into the pieces I currently have in my wardrobe. My love of the month is most definitely the running sweat from the Adidas by Stella McCartney range - it so dreamy! I first saw this pop up on Esteé Lalondes snapchat and immediately knew I had to hunt it down. It certainly isn't what you would class as just pure gym gear, I wear it with a pair of jeans and trainers mostly, and for the occasional trip to the gym. I just think it's so awesome, so versatile, you'll have to peel this one off of me!

I am also known to love a good basic tee, and this Tipped T-shirt from ASOS is a great update on the classics. The subtle hint of mauve pink is super satisfying, and it's only £10 - it was a done deal as soon as I saw it. (it does keep coming in and out of stock so keep your eyes peeled!)

SO, THAT'S ME DONE - WHAT HAVE YOU LOVED THIS MONTH?

Unfortunately I didn't have my cameraman (AKA Adam) to help me get some shots of the tops on but I'll make sure I feature them on here soon!

Amsterdam Photo Diary

AMSTERDAM
Well, hello! I realise I should probably set off this post by addressing the fact my presence has somewhat lacked over this year so far - wah! My apologies! I'm been AWOL with a few bits and pieces, but I'm back! With that, I thought filling you in on life with a little snapshot from my recent trip to Amsterdam would be an appropriate (and very very pretty) starting point.

It has been so nice to kick the year off with a little mini-break and our 3 days in Amsterdam (which you may have seen popping up on my instagram) were truly a welcome break, and now I fear I have a slight case of wanderlust. You really can't beat venturing out and exploring new sights and seeking new experiences and I now have a long list of destinations I want to visit this year - so I'd better start saving!

Amsterdam really was as picturesque as you imagine it to be, with certain areas resembling Parisian charm and little corners just like my beloved Berlin (like the picture above). We spent most of our days wandering around the canal belt, popping in and out of cute independent store in the nine streets and picking up baked goods from any bakery I could find - which is no big surprise.

Citizen M Hotel - Amsterdam

CITIZEN M
For our short stay we rested our tired bodies at the Citizen M Hotel, and it was such an awesome experience! Not only could you control the heating, lighting and television all from an ipad, the bed was HUGE and a welcome cushion for a good nights sleep. (man, I still miss that bed) The room has mood settings so you can wake up or wind down to certain noises on the surround sounds and alter the colour of the lights to suit - super cool right? Don't even get me started on the tv channels... (I may have managed to squeeze in 3 movies and multiple episodes of Ex on the Beach)

STEDELIJK MUSEUM
We didn't spend too much time doing the touristy things you would expect of a trip to Amsterdam, but we did make a stop off at the Stedelijk Museum, which is Amsterdam's offering of modern and contemporary art. With Adam being an illustrator, he always ensures a few galleries and exhibitions are on our to do list, and this museums collection spans everything from Mondrian to Memphis with an emphasis on applied arts.

If you're heading to Amsterdam any time soon, I would suggest checking out Emily Isa Baker for her awesome round up of Amsterdam city guides! They were super handy for finding sweet little spots for dinner or re-charging with a cup of coffee.

IF YOU ARE A LOVER OF CANALS AND CAFÉ CULTURE  - I'D SUGGEST AMSTERDAM!
