The Shoe Selection

As a little fun post on a Thursday I thought I'd let you all in on what shoes I have stashed in my wardrobe! I'm not a regular shoe buyer, but I'm happy with this carefully selected bunch that has steadily grown over the years. I've got rid of some pairs over the years, but these babies have managed to proved their worth and have earned a place on my feet. Lucky them.
Some may look a tad worse for wear - or should I say 'well-loved'? - some too heavily worn to even make the cut into this post and you may notice that not one pair of heels is present due to me not being stable enough to work a pair of heels (Yes-I clomp). I'm a lover of a good ol' flat, but I'm working on it...

Just in case you were wondering...

  • White Converse
  • Black Converse
  • Zara Trainers (Post- HERE)
  • Nike Air
  • Office Dessert Boots
  • Topshop Chelsea Boots
  • Topshop Heeled Booties
  • H&M Snakeskin Flats (Post- HERE)
  • Office Loafers
  • Topshop Yellow Sandals
  • Topshop Sandals (Post- HERE)

No doubt this group of footwear will be added too - Yes, I've already narrowed it down to my next pair.

Buckle Up, It's Shoe Time...

Firstly I'd like to start by apologising for the ridiculous title of this blog post - I. Just. Couldn't. Resist. *shakes head disapprovingly* Moving swiftly on...

Walking around with my feet stuffed (overdramatic use of 'stuffed') into a pair of trainers or boots with the weather being so glorious made me eager to hit the shops to make my first sandal purchase of the year. I'm sure all you girls can relate when I say I dug out last years sandal offerings to reveal a selection that just didn't work any more, which gave me the peeerfect excuse to pick up a new pair!

I'm picky when it comes to sandals, making the trip a lot longer than it needed to be! But I went for these black buckled lovelies - from Topshop. When it comes to sandals, I like having a strap across the ankle as it just makes things feel more secure. You know? As much as I love the chunky Birkenstock's making their way back into trend this summer and the fact they look awesome on, for £28 Topshop have supplied me with the perfect feminine but not too feminine sandal that carries the buckle effect of the Birckenstocks, but a more dainty and lightweight appeal. These sweet little things are quite Whistles-esque, don't you think? You can't fail when I black is on offer and I love that I can picture these with many a printed trouser or maybe even a dress (whoa- steady on, Emily)  I've got a feeling the blog will be seeing a lot more of these in photos to come...

The Best Of The Basic Tee's

I'm a girl of simple pleasures, and that doesn't differ when it comes to my style and for me, comfort and wear-ability is key for my wardrobe but I still like to keep my outfits 'edgy'.
So, today I'm going to run through a few of the best basics I have stashed in my wardrobe that I tend to chuck on on the daily, but if it's a bit too casual for your style then you can always whack on a bright necklace, a bold lip or a colourful nail. I like to think of it as effortless everyday chic...

Let's start with basic Vneck Tees - You can't. go. wrong. I've mentioned my love for them before, and I'll do it again, because they are just so wearable. I'd even pick up a couple of them oversized to wear with shorts - cute.

Basic Tee - Topshop
Black Trousers - Zara
Sandals - Topshop
Sunglasses - Topshop
Nails - Maybelline Super Stay Gel Polish (Indepth post- HERE)

Basic Tee - Topshop

White is everywhere this season and since I'm not brave enough to wear it in the form of a pair of ripped jeans, I can settle for a fresh white oversized lightweight knit - This is a statement enough for me. The shorter sleeves means you won't overheat even though it's a knit and with British weather being as it is (boo), I'm guna need this on hand for the chillier days.

Jumper - Zara

It took strength not to pick up one of these vests in every colour, but I managed to leave with just the one. The fit is great and it doesn't sport a racer back, which I'm not keen on as you can't get away from flashing your bra straps - girls, you know what I mean!? Not a good look. So this vest gets a big thumbs up from me!

When Lip Products Get Shadey

One part of my make-up routine that I just can't get down - and believe me I try - is lips. Glosses, balms, lipsticks - I suck at them all. Matching shades is a fail for the most part (as-well as not being brave enough to wear a bold colour - see my issue?) and my general inability to pick up a lip offering that suits me means I've come across a few bloopers along the way.

Revlon Lip Butter - Sweet Tart//

Revlon is my go-to when it comes to lips, they're 'Super Lustrous' line is awesome and I love the formula of they're lip butters as they are a hybrid between a balm and a lipstick. The pigmentation is spot on and they aren't too glossy but leave my lips nourished. I already have 'Berry Smoothie' but 'Sweet Tart' is just too pink for my liking. I can just about pull it off as a full on lip but I just don't feel comfortable wearing it this way so I dab it on the lip to just get a slight colour. I love these lip butters, maybe when I am braver in the bold lip department it may make a reappearance?...

Revlon Colourburst Laqure Balm - Demure//
Again - the formula is of this balm is great and I didn't get the shade that far wrong (Hallelujah!) but this stick just holds too much glitter for my lip liking. When swatched on my hand in store I didn't notice the shimmer but when in the sun it made an appearance. The shade works a treat, but I ain't a glitter gal.

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss - Afternoon Tea//
I SO wanted to love this product but as a first time lip gloss wearer this product was just too thick and application was far from smooth. Maybe its my lips? But when applied it blotted on my pout and highlighted the creases in my lips - if that makes sense at all? - I know many bloggers rave about the range and as a regular watcher of her Youtube videos naturally I made a b-line as soon as they hit stores, but this tube is being donated to a friend - I couldn't let it go to waste, could I?

Back to square one - back to boots...

The Orange Manicure - Nailed It.

Who remembers The Style Edit I typed up about my current love for all things orange? Well, the same colour scheme has worked its way onto my finger tips and I've been gravitating towards all the orange bottles in the isles of boots and now have a few in my stash. I've narrowed it down to my 2 most loved nail offerings that just bring it when it comes to popping a bit of colour and owning that high shine glossy finish. These 2 may look the same on the image, but they each offer a different shade.

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine// This little pot in 'Passion Fruit' is a much loved shade that is a great transitional shade from winter to spring. The Gelly range by Barry M is awesome when it comes to staying power and after a few coats it genuinely looks like you've nipped to the salon and got your shellac owwn. The shade is a lovely deep orange with a slight hint of red and as I'm not a brave enough red nail wearer this is the perfect meet in the middle colour for me. I'm also going to just point out that even my boyfriend commented on this particular colour when I had layered it on for a date night so that must mean its a winner - right?

Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Colour// I can't even explain how big my heart eyes are for this shade. I have been on the hunt for a pink nail varnish - which I'm well aware this is not - but after deciding that pink is not a 'me' colour I came across the shade 'Hot Salsa' on the Maybelline counter and I had to make it mine. Once applied unlike the Barry M which has more of a red undertone, this shade holds more of a pink undertone - making it the perfect orange/pink hybrid. Chips? There are none. I wore this on my tips for almost a week without a scratch or chip and at around £4 a bottle I was bloody surprised at the awesomeness. I haven't checked out the rest of the shades in the line yet, but don't you think that I'm not all. over. it.

Are you all about the orange mani too?

Love One, Leave One

The past week or so I've been seriously under the weather and my skin was feeling it too. My combination skin isn't usually prone to dryness but patches have a risen and my skin has definitely felt sore, is that even a thing? I have recently ran out of my morning facial cleanser which is the Origins A Perfect World Cleanser With White Tea and replaced it with an older offering in my stash that comes in the form of Clinique's Liquid Facial Soap - for the sake of not being able to leave my bed - and I've come to the conclusion that this product may just be the culprit to my skin 360...

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap-
When first indulging in my skin care I headed straight for the Clinique counter. After a few uses my skin felt tight and like all the extra oils in my combination skin had been completely drawn out and left me with uncomfortable skin. I think this product and the 3 Step system is an amazing idea and a great product but unfortunately I think I had been issued the wrong number in their 3 Step system and I could have done with a lighter solution that wasn't as harsh on my face. Maybe I'll revisit you another day Clinique face wash, but for now it's sayonara...

Origins A Perfect World Cleanser With White Tea -
SO, I briefly touched on my love for this product way back when (HERE) and I've been smitten ever since. Being bed bound meant once I had squeezed the last splodge out of the tube, I had to switch to the Clinique but after my skin clearly didn't agree with it I just had to muster the strength to make a dash to grab some more. Since making it's way back into rotation it has definitely restored the balance in my routine and my face has felt much more comfortable BUT my skin still isn't as oil controlled as I'd like. Girl problems-aye? It's an on going battle, but this product still comes up trumps and was a definite skin saviour for poorly Emily. I know Clinique was far too harsh, but for now this Cleanser is nice and gentle and the majority of my skin care routine is supplied by the wonderful world of Origins.

What products have saved your skin?

The Blog Re-vamp

I'm so excited to share with you today a little blog update: I'm getting a re-vamp!
Since first posting on emilysmth.blogspot.co.uk my knowledge, even though still limited, has grown and I'm aware of the greatness I can bring to my blog. The plan has always been to evolve and put my stamp on the blogging community and I'm pleased to say that things are under way!
As I said, my tech knowledge is some what limited and that means I can just about handle the basics. If a problem arises all hell breaks loose and I'm not kidding - just ask my boyfriend.
(A little boyfriend appreciation coming up - you'd better be reading this, Adam)
As I'm in the process of jotting down ideas and doodles I'm shoving them in the direction of Adam, my boyfriend. He's quite the wizz when it comes down to this kind of thing AND happens to be a dab hand with a pencil - Jokes, He's an illustrator! - So, he's my right hand man for the duration of this project. I can't tell you how happy I am to transform my blog into the ideas that I've got scrambling up my mind as it's like my little baby. The exact date of the launch of my new and improved blog AND blog name but just watch this space...

You can check out Adam at these links:

The Post About The Snakeskin Shoes

Never did I ever think I'd be sporting snakeskin, there has always been something a tad too John Travolta about it for my liking - No idea where I got that resemblance from, either. Having said that, after gentle persuasion from my boyfriend to slip my feet into this pair of flats in H&M on one shopping outing, I fell hook line aaand sinker.

They're amazing. A statement pair of shoes is something my wardrobe lacks (bar a Nike offering that are grey, and pink, and amazing..) and these flats really go with a lot. They make such an impact on a simple outfit really giving them the opportunity to stand out, or they look equally as 'look at me' paired with a smart blouse for an evening out. Keeping things smart up top, yet casual - my go too look - as seen here...

(Bad iphone quality *sighs*)

I'm really not a shoe purchasing kind of gal (the evidence doesn't support my statement here - my bad!) but these are the second pair I've picked up this month and after a slight wash of guilt, I'm setting my sights on a pair of summer sandals...Guilty as charged.
