Face Base #1: A MAC Offering

If you're anyone who knows me well, you'll know the endless amounts of tester pots I have emptied in the hunt to find the perfect foundation for my skin type. If you're someone who doesn't know me, then prepare yourself for a battle story where I think I have come out victorious...

I have oily/combination skin, so when it comes to my 'face base' I need a product that is long wearing, but not so much that it cakes. I need that staying power. I have tried endless brand names, both drugstore and high end, but I either find that half way through the day it has slid off my face or I need a powder brush within reaching distance. Finally, I think I might have found the foundation for me. I don't want to commit to anything just yet, but things are getting serious...

Mac - Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation - £25.

I've been through serious amounts of tester pots before fully committing and purchasing the full sized bottle. I'm such an indecisive person and wanted to make sure that I was making a justifiable £25 investment. I explained in store to a girl on the counter that I wanted a foundation that would keep oil at bay but is not too heavy, so she steered me towards Pro Longwear. I was weary at first when I heard 'long wear' as I've tried a Bobby Brown 'Long Wear Even Finish' formula before and just did not get on with it. (I told you its been a battle, right?) I got colour matched and I went home with my trusty tester pot in hand to try it out for myself before the big bottle purchase.
I wear the shade N18, which is a perfect match for my skin tone at the moment. I like the 'my skin but better' look everyone lusts after so yes, the formula is a little thicker than the foundations that I'm used too, which means a bit of expert blending action is needed (with the holy grail Real Techniques Buffing Brush) to achieve a light even finish. If you're too heavy handed things can get messy but I just find that this MAC offering gives me the coverage that I'm after without feeling heavy and I've got the staying power I've been longing for. Nothing budges this baby once it's put.
(Warning: disappears off nose after a days worth of itching and sweeping hair out of face issues.)

My search for the perfect 'face base' might never end, but I know once this bottle is over I'll be heading in the direction of my local MAC counter...

Has MAC saved you from your foundation woes?
